In 2021 and 2022, the International Geography Olympiad was held online due to the global pandemic. However, in conditions of the greatest competition (180 participants, from 46 countries) at the XVII International Olympiad in Geography, in 2021, Bulgaria has its first gold medal, as well as the maximum number of medals won - four, ranking her 6th in the world! ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ง๐ฌ
The medals won at the XVII and XVIII International Olympiads are a total of 7: one gold ๐ฅ, five silver ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ and one bronze ๐ฅ.
The International Geography Olympiad is held annually for students aged 16 to 19. It consists of 3 parts - multimedia test, test with written answers, and fieldwork.
The beginning of iGeo international geography competition was given way back in 1996 in The Hague, Netherlands and since then every one or two years an Olympiad has been held in different corners of the world. Bulgaria took part in the International Olympiad in 2004.
At the iGeo 2021 National Olympiad. (Turkey), gold distinction ๐ฅ won by Teodor Kostov (MG "Dr. Petar Beron", city of Varna). Silver medals ๐ฅ go to Antonio Georgiev (PMG "Acad. S. Korolov", Blagoevgrad) and Daniel Dimitrov (MG "Dr. Petar Beron", Varna). The bronze medal ๐ฅ goes to Atanas Ivanov (NPMG "Acad. Lyubomir Chakalov", Sofia).
The feeling of representing your country at the world level is amazing. It cannot be described in words and only one who has experienced it can truly understand the magic of the Olympics.
- Daniel Dimitrov
In 2022, at the iGeo International Olympiad (France), the three silver medals ๐ฅ were won by the students - Daniel Dimitrov, Mikhail Paskalev (MG "Dr. Peter Beron", city of Varna), and Denis Urumov (91. NEG "Prof. Konstantin Galabov", Sofia city).
During the Olympics, I felt different feelings - on the one hand, satisfaction that you managed to reach the competition, but also tension because you are representing the national team and because you are facing other students who have gone through selection in their countries.
- Mikhail Paskalev
Behind this incredible success of the seven boys who represented Bulgaria to the world lies a lot of hard work, determination, and intensive training during the summer, in their free time, 6-7 hours a DAY. ๐ฅ๐ง ๐ช๐ผ
